ROM4 Content Protection

Content Protection for BD-ROM Version 4

As Content Protection Obligation of FLLA for BD-ROM (Read-Only) Version 4, following requirements are defined.
1. Definitions
“AACS Online” shall mean application program interfaces and functions described in Chapter 4 “Details for Uses of On-line Connections” in the “Advanced Access Content System Blu-ray Disc Pre-recorded Book.”

“Ultra HD AACS” shall mean the version of the Advanced Access Content System, technology and associated licenses applied to Ultra HD Blu-ray pre-recorded audiovisual content.

“Ultra HD BD+” shall mean the technology described in the “Ultra HD BD+ System Specification.”

“Ultra HD BD-ROM Mark” shall mean the technology described in the “3C BD-ROM Mark Specification.”

“New Production Format Model” shall mean a First or Next Production Format Model which is released after a certain date.

“Online Certificate Verification” shall mean function to verify in connection with an Online Certificate that was duly provided by BDA certificate authority and has not been revoked.

“Online Certificate” shall mean a certificate to be issued or that has been issued, by the BDA to Type B Licensees under BD-Live Logo License and Online Certificate Issuance Agreement, the semantics of which are defined in “Certified Network Connection” in 3-2 Annex DD in “System Description, Blu-ray Disc Read Only Format Part 3: Audio Visual Basic Specifications: version 3.XX.”

2. The CPSs in this Agreement are the following systems:

Ultra HD AACS
Ultra HD BD-ROM MARK
Ultra HD BD+

Further information on any CPS is available from BDA.

3.  Licensee shall implement and cause its Licensed Affiliate(s) and any applicable subcontracting third party(ies) to implement CPS in its Ultra HD BD-ROM Products in accordance with the following CPO Table and CPS license.  “Not Required” in the CPO Table means that it is Licensee’s choice whether it will implement such CPS or not.  Ultra HD BD-ROM Game Media shall be in compliance with Ultra HD Content Protection Obligations applicable to Ultra HD BD-ROM Game Media in the CPO table and not the Ultra HD Content Protection Obligations applicable to Ultra HD BD-ROM Data Media.

4.  Licensee shall ensure that each Ultra HD BD-ROM Movie Player and Ultra HD BD-ROM PC Drive is not allowed to playback any Ultra HD BD-ROM Media unless such Ultra HD BD-ROM Media includes Ultra HD BD-ROM Mark.  Both (i) New Production Format Models of Ultra HD BD-ROM Movie Players and (ii) a combination of a New Production Format Model of Ultra HD BD-ROM PC Drive and any Ultra HD BD-ROM PC Application Software are subject to verification of compliance with the applicable portion(s) of the most recent version of the Test Specification pursuant to Schedule B.  The portions of (i) New Production Format Models of Ultra HD BD-ROM Movie Players that are responsible for detecting and responding to the absence of the Ultra HD BD-ROM Mark and (ii) a combination of a New Production Format Model of Ultra HD BD-ROM PC Drives and any Ultra HD BD-ROM PC Application Software that are responsible for detecting and responding to the absence of the Ultra HD BD-ROM Mark must comply with the compliance and robustness requirements of Schedule H.

5.  Licensee shall ensure that each Ultra HD BD-ROM Game Console manufactured by Licensee does not play back any Ultra HD BD-ROM Game Media unless such media is protected either by its own proprietary content protection system or Ultra HD BD-ROM Mark.  New Production Format Models of Ultra HD BD-ROM Game Consoles are subject to verification of compliance with the applicable part of Test Specification pursuant to Schedule B.  The portions of New Production Format Models of Ultra HD BD-ROM Game Consoles that are responsible for detection and response to the absence of ROM Mark will be required to comply with the compliance and robustness requirements of Schedule H.

6.  Licensee may manufacture any Ultra HD BD-ROM Component which supports multiple CPS as long as it is in compliance with the CPO table.  For example, Licensee may manufacture the Ultra HD BD-ROM Component which supports both Ultra HD AACS and Ultra HD BD-ROM Mark.  

7.  Both (i) New Production Format Models of Ultra HD BD-ROM Movie Players, and (ii) a combination of a New Production Format Model of Ultra HD BD-ROM PC Application Software and any Ultra HD BD-ROM PC Drive must reject the playback of Media that (a) incorporates CAV Content or other audio and/or video content which has been encoded in accordance with the “System Description, Blu-ray Disc Read Only Format Part 3:  Audio Visual Basic Specifications:  version 3.XX and (b) does not implement applicable Ultra HD AACS files as specified in “Advanced Access Content System (AACS), Blu-ray Disc Pre-recorded Book.” Both BDA, (i) New Production Format Models of Ultra HD BD-ROM Movie Players and (ii) a combination of a New Production Format Model of Ultra HD BD-ROM PC Application Software and any Ultra HD BD-ROM PC Drive will be subject to verification of compliance with the applicable part of Test Specification pursuant to Schedule B.  Both the portions of (i) New Production Format Models of Ultra HD BD-ROM Movie Players that are responsible for detecting and responding to the absence of applicable Ultra HD AACS and (ii) a combination of a New Production Format Model of Ultra HD BD-ROM PC Application Software and any Ultra HD BD-ROM PC Drive that are responsible for detecting and responding to the absence of applicable Ultra HD AACS must comply with the compliance and robustness requirements of Schedule I.  The compliance and robustness of all implementations of applicable Ultra HD AACS in Ultra HD BD-ROM Players, Ultra HD BD-ROM PC Application Software and Ultra HD BD-ROM PC Drives shall be governed at all times solely by the terms of the applicable Ultra HD AACS license(s) and not by Schedule I.

8.  Licensee shall ensure that AACS Online and Online Certificate Verification is implemented in each Ultra HD BD-ROM Movie Player, Ultra HD BD-ROM Game Console and Ultra HD BD-ROM PC Application Software which complies with “BD-ROM Profile 6” as specified in the “System Description, Blu-ray Disc Read Only Format Part 3:  Audio Visual Basic Specifications:  version 3.XX.”
